Hotel Scandic — Nürnberg, DE
The design of all areas strongly references the locality, translated in a contemporary way. The mediaeval Nuremberg Castle, for example, was the inspiration for the design of the restaurant; the baroque garden Hesperidengärten provided the leitmotif for the café/workspace area. The way materials and colours have been combined, and the purposeful use of the various design elements, gives the space an extremely unique character.
With the aim of a resource-saving approach to the conversion of the former Maritim Hotel, it was ensured that as much as possible of the already existing was retained, which now provides a modern looking contrast to the new fitted and free-standing furniture, achieved through the colours and varnishes. The interior design adds further contrasts to the smooth, elegant surfaces with rough materials; natural greenery and warm wood were used to achieve the same effect in juxtaposition to cool exposed concrete or metal.
